MATCH REPORTS – U14s v Crediton

After an improved performance last week, despite the result, Exeter took on Crediton at Oil Mill Lane. Both teams were missing several players due to injury which meant Craig Marriott playing at full back, Cameron Forrest on the wing, Levi Richards at outside centre, Charlie Mason at blind side flanker and Will Cartlidge in the second row.

Exeter started well when Captain Jody Devine side-stepped his way over the line after a good handling move from the backs, Harrison Greenslade converted. After another run from Jody, Ryan Lacey was stopped close to the line but a couple of phases later he picked up and drove over to score. Olly Luxton did well to take a high kick and passed to Tyler Cobb, when he was tackled Hazam Badram took the ball into the opposition 22. Scrum Half Noah Williams passed out to Cam who showed great speed to score out wide. After another long run from Camhe passed the ball on to Ryan who was stopped just short of the line. The scrum was working well and after the ball was won against the headExeter won a Penalty. Ryan ran hard and the chose the right time to pass out for Charlie to score, Jody converted. Crediton fought back and Tyler and Levi made great tackles. When it seemed that Crediton must score in the corner Craig made a fantastic tackle and forced the attacker into touch. When Crediton attacked again Charlie and Tyler made good tackles out wide. Harrisons clearing kick was well taken by Levi to regain possession. Crediton got on the scoresheet when their full back made a great run from halfway to beat several players and score. Levi and Harvey Lashbrook combined to bundle Crediton into touch, again Tyler and Charlie tackled well but from a penalty Crediton used the space well to score out wide.

The second half started well as Arthur Wiltshire won a turnover following his own tackle. Ryan and Levi tackled well and Will Cartlidge had a good run but chose to go on his own when a pass out wide could have led to a try. WhenExeter were awarded a five metre scrum, the forwards provided good ball and Olly picked up at no8 and dived over to score. Noah had a good run and passed on to Cam, Harrison Greenslade ran well and found Hazam who was held up on the line. From the next attack Levi did well to take a pass that seemed to be behind him and run in a good try which Jody converted.

Craig made a great run from Fullback and passed to Jody who found Charlie who was stopped by a very good Crediton tackle. Exetertook a quick line out to Noah who ran from his own half into Creditons 22 where he passed toTyler, when he was tackled the ball was recycled to Arthur who stretched out an arm to score. Tom Pepperell and Charlie (again) made good tackles before Ryan made a strong run but was driven into touch a couple of metres out. After much Exeter pressure James Oldfield got the ball away from the ruck to Hazam who scored in the corner to end the game.

 It was a good performance from Exeter, some of the play was very impressive and the passion of the previous week was evident. A couple of chances were missed and Crediton were certainly on top at the ruck where Noah had to battle to get the ball free. Harrison used his boot to good affect with several of his clearing kicks being chased and won by his own team.

 Parents players of the day were Arthur and Charlie. Both scored tries and were very busy in the back row.

 The coaches player was Noah Williams who added to his usual passing game with a couple of good runs and a combative display at the ruck. Several others were considered including Tom Litton for his tackling and Craig Marriott for an impressive first game at Fullback.
